Who is Profe Ferguson?
Profe (the title for a teacher in Spanish) Kelly Ferguson graduated with honors from UW Oshkosh with a BA in Elementary Education and Spanish. She earned her Master’s degree in Education from UW-Stevens Point. She began teaching high school Spanish in Westfield, WI, where she taught for five years before moving to Madison. She has been teaching Spanish at La Follette High School (and for two years also at O’Keeffe Middle School) ever since.
Profe Ferguson is one of fewer than 1500 National Board Certified teachers in WI, and one of only 50 in World Languages. She has also been recognized as a Google Certified Educator (Level 1) and Kahoot Gold Level Educator.
Profe is an active participant in multiple language teacher organization and presents at state, regional, and national conferences, including the Wisconsin Association For Language Teachers, the Central States Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, and the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages. She has coached teachers at the National Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling Conference and the International Forum on Language Teaching Conference. She also is part of the conference planning team for Comprehensible Midwest.
When not at school, she loves soccer and not only plays on a recreational team but is very involved in The Flock, ISA, the organization of supporters of Forward Madison Football Club. You can find her all summer at Forward games, often drumming and screaming to cheer on the boys in pink and blue.
Profe Ferguson also is a member of the Madison Curling Club, although she is far from following in the footsteps of the Hamilton siblings who have made it to the Olympic Games. She plays violin and percussion, and can be heard in the Sun Prairie Area Community Band and in the pit orchestra for local community theater groups (most often Verona).
